Update - Changes Are A-Comin’
First of all, I would like to wish everyone a Happy New Year!
This site has been quiet for a while because I decided to take a short break during the holidays, and to also work on a project - a new web site. That’s right ... I finally decided to create and maintain my own web site.
The name of the site is “Chernobyl and Eastern Europe.” Strange, that’s the name of this blog, too. The name is the same because ... this blog will be moving over to the new site within the next several weeks. That’s right, this blog is moving. Don’t worry, I’ll post the new URL several days before the move, and I also intend to set the old Blogger site to redirect to the new one. Those of you with a feed subscription should not need to make any changes. I run my feed through Feedburner, and will make the appropriate changes there when the site moves. Hopefully you won’t notice the difference.
So, why move to a new site? Well, everything has been fine with Blogger, except that I found it to be extremely limiting. I’ve been thinking about running my own website for quite a while now and finally decided to bite the bullet. So, I have joined up with an ISP, installed Movable Type 4, and have spent the last several weeks learning how to create and format a web site.
This blog will be a major feature of the site, but I will also be able to include other content such as essays, more photos, and general information about our favorite subject matter, Chernobyl and Eastern Europe. The site will be pretty basic at first, with the blog comprising the majority of content. I hope to consistently load additional content to make the site a better and more complete reference center.
Suite101.com Updates
I am still the Feature Writer for Eastern European/Russian Affairs at Suite101.com, though the topic name is about to change to the more general “European Affairs.” Also, as of last Friday, the main section name “World Affairs” has been replaced by “Politics and Society.” These changes were made by Suite101 administrators - I had nothing to do with it.
If you want to reference any of my Ukraine travel articles, they are now located in Russia/Central Asia travel. Once again, I had nothing to do with the change. All Suite101 articles are retaining their original URLs, so bookmarks to specific articles will not be affected.
In the latter part of 2007, I started a series of government profile articles. If you are interested, the countries include:
Expect more government profiles throughout 2008. I also started a new series of nuclear energy profile articles, beginning with Ukraine. Look for more of this series throughout the year. Since my topic is changing, both series will be expanded to include the rest of Europe.
Finally, I recently posted a preview of the upcoming Russian Presidential election.
More Updates
I just did an interview with the owner of the blog “Gosh That’s Green” regarding nuclear power and Chernobyl. I’ll post more information when the interview is placed online.
Bear with me during the next several weeks as I get the new site up-and-running. I’ll try to keep this blog updated, but some events may slip through the cracks.
I want to thank everyone who has stopped by to read this blog. I hope you have enjoyed the content so far and hope the new site will give you a better experience. Feel free to contact me any time if you have any concerns or suggestions.
