Kosovo Declares Independence
Breakaway province Kosovo officially declared its independence from Serbia on February 17, 2008. The Kosovar Parliament gathered for an emergency session and approved the declaration by a vote of 109-0.As expected, Serbia refuses to recognize Kosovo’s independence, and Russia has called the pronouncement illegal.
